First things first, is there are a war on talent happening in Luxembourg as we speak? Yes, I’d say so. Demand is outstripping the supply. All the big players in the market are fighting to attract the same top talent, each offering varying and different incentives and candidate experiences.

According to PwC’s 22nd CEO Survey, over 80% of Luxembourg CEOs have indicated that either a deficit in supply of skilled workers or a change in the skills requirements in their industry has made hiring more difficult.

Plus, a majority of Luxembourg CEOs stated that the talent gap is increasing people costs, affecting the ability to innovate and impacting customer experience. As availability of key skills is a threat to growth, many businesses are having to reflect on how to best find the talent they need to push their business further.

So what’s the answer?

Think outside the box! It’s not enough to rely simply on own networks or contacts in recruiter’s books anymore. Especially as they’ll mostly present the “best of the bunch” from active candidates rather than digging deeper into what you are really looking for.

Taking the so-called “easy route” just doesn’t work anymore, especially when looking for the hard-to-find candidates, the true technical experts and those with niche specialisms. It’s time to be innovative, think further afield. As a starting point, look at passive candidates that aren’t with the recruiters, that don’t yet know they want to make a life-changing move.

Luxembourg remains an attractive place to work – the economy is stable, opportunities aplenty and the country as a whole is making great efforts to brand themselves as the place to be – investing in infrastructure, keeping taxes low, developing the innovative mind-set and initiatives.

So it may seem that there is a talent shortage but in fact, it’s all about thinking wider and knowing where to find it.
